Eastern Equatoria state has received more than 30 million new South Sudanese Pounds.
The Director of South Sudan Central Bank, Jacob Lewak handed over the money to the acting governor of the state at Torit airstrip yesterday.He described the currency as the legal tender of the Republic of South Sudan.
The Acting Governor Jerome Gama Surur expressed happiness saying the money will be used to facilitate the development of the state after a long struggle of war.
He encouraged the citizens to take out the old pound by exchanging their money within the time limit given.
Torit County commissioner Felix Otuduha Siro cautions the public to be vigilant against people with intentions of counterfeiting the new currency.
The Commissioner said the new currency will be exchanged at the state Nile Commercial Bank.
