Midwives and midwifery specialists from all over South Sudan and neighboring countries, joined hands to develop a standard Midwifery Curriculum and Nursing and Midwifery Education Standards South Sudan.
Olivia Lomoru, undersecretary in the GoSS ministry of Health, said the workshop will review the current midwifery curriculum because the region has been using different curricula from different countries. She mentioned that a standard curriculum will enable midwives in South Sudan to operate in other parts of the world too.
Dr. Lomuru noted that the curriculum will ensure standards of quality nursing and midwifery care and cut down the maternal mortality rates in South Sudan which is one of the highest in the world.
The workshop is a part of a larger joint programme between the Ministry of Health and UNFPA.
