The Central Bank of South Sudan yesterday launched officially its currency, the South Sudanese Pound.

The acting head of the Central Bank Elija Malouk said the new currency has all denominations from one pound to 100 pounds.

Mr. Malouk explained that the value of the new South Sudanese pound is equal to the value of the Sudan pound.

He called on the people to change the Sudan tender with the South Sudan pound.

Mr. Malouk said the bank notes do not have a date printed on them but they have descriptions such as legal tender.

He added that people should not be worried about the absence of the date.

The new currency is on use since yesterday.

The Central Bank has given the public only three months to change their Sudanese pounds into the new currency.
