BISHOP OF RUMBEK PASSES AWAY

The Catholic Bishop of Rumbek collapsed this morning while at mass and died.

Bishop Caesar Mazzolari was concelebrating the Eucharist at the Holy Family Cathedral in Rumbek when he felt unwell.

He reached for his chair and collapsed.

Fr. Don Bosco Ochieng from Good News Radio told SCR News that the bishop was rushed immediately to Rumbek Hospital where he died.

A doctor said the bishop most likely suffered a heart attack.

Fr. Fernando Colombo, who was Rumbek’s Vicar General, said Bishop Mazzolari suffered from heart problems.

He added that the bishop kept on oushing until he spent his life completely.

Bishop Mazzolari, a Comboni Missionary from Italy, was 74.

He served as Apostolic Administrator of Rumbek since 1990, and was ordained its Bishop in 1999.
