A teacher from Lake State has expressed high expectations for the new Republic of South Sudan.

James Mabor Meen, 27, teaches at Holy Cross Comboni Primary School in Yirol. He told Good News Radio that the independence of South Sudan will bring infrastructure development including tarmac roads up to Yirol.

He said he expects the construction of more secondary schools to accommodate the many pupils finishing primary education and health facilities to add to the present two hospitals in Greater Yirol.

Mr. Mabor said he expects modern buildings to come up in his town.

He added that he is prepared to quit his job as a teacher to go for further studies and find a job in one of the modern offices that will be built during the post-independence era.

Mr. Mabor encouraged the youths to develop interest in formal education, explaining that they are the future leaders of South Sudan.

He also advocated for girls’ education, arguing that the 25 percent allotted to women will be available to women with the relevant academic credentials.

The independence of South Sudan carries with it great hopes and expectations for the citizens, all of which may only be realized over time and require the active involvement of all South Sudanese.
