The meeting was attended by the three bishops of Khartoum and El Obeid plus 35 priests and religious brothers and sisters from the two dioceses.
Auxiliary Bishop Daniel Adwok Kur of Khartoum said in an e-mail to Bakhita Radio that the meeting discussed topics relevant to the Catholic Church in the Sudan, including legal issues, church-government relations, pastoral challenges and relationship with the Muslim community.
He added that the participants offered a special prayer for the Republic of South Sudan asking God to accompany the activities of the people of South Sudan for his Kingdom and the wellbeing of the human person.
Bishop Adwok announced that the president of the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference Cardinal Gabriel Zubeir Wako, Archbishop of Khartoum, is expected to visit Juba next week.
The bishops of Sudan and South Sudan form one conference but have two independent secretariats in Juba and Khartoum.
The bishops of the two countries should meet on October 19 to 28 in Wau to decide the future of their conference.
