A big number of returnees who arrived at Shambe Port in Lakes States on Friday is still awaiting transportation to Yirol West County.

Nine barges arrived at Shambe with returnees on the eve of Independence Day, Good News Radio reported.

The returnees are yet to be transported to a way station at Nyang, in Yirol West County, before resettling in various places in Lakes State.

Gabriel Anok, Yirol West County Deputy Secretary of South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, confirmed the arrival.

He said the barges arrived at Shambe last Friday with many returnees and they were yet to be transported to the way station at Nyang.

Mr. Anok added that the Commissioner of Yirol East County has availed two vehicles to transport the enumerators to Shambe to register the returnees.

He explained that International Organization for Migrations will bring the returnees to the way station as soon as the registration is concluded.

Mr. Anok appealed to the relevant authorities, including the local communities, to receive the returnees well and offer them any help possible.

Many South Sudanese living in the North decided to come home ahead of the independence.
