A World Bank official said both Sudan and South Sudan agreed to a zero option with Khartoum taking full responsibility for international debt which is estimated to be almost 39 Billion US dollars.

Ian Banon, World Bank Country director, said the two governments agreed that Sudan would take responsibility of the external debt of the country.

Mr. Banon added that the South is in return expected to lobby the international community and Sudan’s debtors to pardon part of the debt.

The World Bank says that part of the 39 US-billion dollar debt is currently in arrears.
