A top official from the Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) told the press that the region has been struck by one of the deadliest droughts in the last fifty years.
IGAD secretary General Mahboub Maalim said a number of countries including Somalia has already declared the state of emergency adding that IGAD is taking measures to recovery and drought efforts.He called upon people of good will to re-adjust their budgets to help people who have been affected by the effects of the drought.
Mr. Maalim scored the existence of instruments that predict drought adding that it will continue to be serious.
He mentioned that South Sudan is under monitoring and the signs will be announced.
Thousands of Somali refugees are reported to be fleeing into Dadaab camp of Kenya for food assistance.
Hundreds of them especially children are reported dead due to hunger.
