The UK is the first country to establish an embassy in South Sudan.

British Foreign Minister William Hague, who was in Juba for the Declaration of Independence, announced today that his government opened yesterday its embassy in Juba.

He added that Dr Alastair McPhail was appointed the first British ambassador to South Sudan.

The British Government pledged to provide next year 90 million starling pounds, almost 385 million Sudanese Pounds, to South Sudan for humanitarian and development needs.

The funding will focus on health, education, economic and financial management, security and justice sector reform, and growth.
