The leader of opposition at South Sudan Legislative Assembly was arrested, beaten up and lost one tooth yesterday after security agents stormed the SPLM-DC’s office in Juba.

Onyoti Odigo Nyakwec told SCR News that four land cruisers full of SPLA soldiers came to his party’s office, beat him and other colleague and forced them to lie down on their stomach.

Mr. Odigo explained that somebody called him during the afternoon saying that three SPLM-DC members were arrested.

He was urged to go to the party’s headquarters.

Mr. Odigo said when he and other colleague arrived at the SPLM-DC’s office soldiers started using force on them.

He added that he and his colleague were then taken to the SPLA’s headquarters in Bispam and beaten up again.

Mr. Odigo said three SPLM-DC youths were arrested while gluing party posters greeting the independence and calling people to unity.

Speaker James Wani Igga condemned the arrest and beating of the opposition leader.

He asked the security to correct the issue because the Constitution grants the Leader of Opposition immunity from arrest.

Mr. Igga added that people with immunity should be respected because that is their constitutional right.

He added that only he or the president can lift that immunity.
