Civil society activists are unhappy for being excluded from the preparations for independence regardless of their efforts during the referendum.

Merekaje Lona, who leads SuDEMOP, told SCR News that although the government has tried, a lot is yet to be done for the people of South Sudan.

She said the civil society was excluded from the Constitution review committee.

She added that someone was called to represent the civil society who did not belong to any association.

Ms. Merekaje said the civil society contributed to the signing of the CPA although they were left out during the interim period.

She added that the government needed the civil society groups in order to win the referendum.

She called upon the government to stop tribalism adding that they should indentify all citizens with the national symbols.

Ms. Merekaje added that there is a high probability of the new nation to be more exclusive.

She called upon other members of the civil society of south Sudan to increase civic education among the communities and help them to make the government accountable.
