A retired Catholic Bishop said that the blood of martyrs led by Fr. Saturnino Ohure and Fr. Leopoldo Anywar together with all the victims of the long civil war in the country gave birth to the Republic of South Sudan.

Bishop Paride Taban told Bakhita Radio that the remains of Fr. Ohure and Fr. Anywar have been moved from Uganda and laid to their permanent resting place in Torit and Magwei respectively by the efforts of their people.

He called upon the people of south Sudan to thank God for the heroes and heroines of the liberation that brought the long awaited and anticipated independence of South Sudan.

Bishop Taban revealed that a huge crowd waited patiently and received the remains of Fr. Anywar enthusiastically.

He added that the two priests gave their lives for the people of South Sudan.

Bishop Taban concluded that the two priests and Dr. John Garang de Mabior alongside many others were the icons of the liberation movement in South Sudan.
