The UN confirmed yesterday that its Secretary General will attend South Sudan’s independence celebrations.
David Gressly, UNMIS regional coordinator for the South, said Ban Ki-moon will arrive on Friday in Juba together with other top UN officials.He added that Hilde Johnson, Ban Ki-Moon’s special representative to head the proposed UN Mission in South Sudan, will also arrive on Friday.
Mr. Gressly said Mr. Ban should meet president Salva Kiir Mayardit during his stay in Juba.
Mr. Ban will be one of the key speakers at the Declaration of Independence ceremony.
