STORM DESTROYS OVER 250 HOMES IN MAGWI COUNTY

A huge storm hit Magwi County on Monday night and it destroyed over 250 homes and some official buildings.

The administrative offices’ roof, including the office of the County commissioner, was also destroyed, Emmanuel Radio reported.

The Mausoleum of late Rev. Fr. Leopoldo Anywar that was blessed on Sunday survived the strong winds.

Magwi County assistant health commissioner Erislia Lakulu Onek said 19 people received treatment at the local health facility run by the Catholic Church.

She added that three victims were transferred to Nimule hospital while one woman was brought to Juba Teaching Hospital.

Children admitted to the local health facility are getting better.

Magwi Central Primary School was also damaged by the strong winds that left many people homeless and many crops devastated.

The storm destroyed some commercial buildings in the town centre.

Over 250 tons of foodstuff for emergency aid were exposed to the elements the at the WFP store when its roof was blown away.

Storekeeper Obalim Sam Robinson said the WFP would send a team from Kapoeta to assess damages.

The state ministers of Information and Housing and Public Utility, and the state representative of South Sudan Rehabilitation Commission were in e Magwi County to assess the damage caused by the storm.
