Security arrangements in place assure citizens of a peaceful environment for the independence celebrations.

GoSS Minister for Internal Affairs Gier Chuang Aluong told the press today that his ministry made a number of arrangements to beef up security in South Sudan during the independence.

He said the security measures included collection of illegal firearms, police and military patrols and reduction of tribal unrest through conflict resolution mechanisms.

Mr. Chuang urged Southerners to welcome independence in style with songs, flowers, flags, prayers, and sharing meals and stories.

The minister reminded citizens that it was forbidden to shoot guns to celebrate independence.

The government asked people to beat drums and churches to ring their bells at the midnight of July 9.
