US SINGER INVITED TO PREFORM AHEAD OF INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION

A US singer was invited to perform and conduct a workshop for musicians in preparation for the upcoming South Sudan independence celebrations.

The public performance organized by the US Consulate General in collaboration with GoSS Ministry of culture and Heritage takes place this evening at Nyakuron Cultural Centre in Juba.

Singer Denise Gordon told Bakhita Radio that she was invited to conduct a workshop with local musicians in preparation for South Sudan’s independence after today’s performance.

She said she was accompanied by Kenyan musicians who will be involved in the training.

She plans to hold a jam session with local artists to get first hand experience of the music scene of South Sudan.

Ms. Gordon revealed that she will also meet South Sudan female artists in order to review areas of weakness with them.

She added that she is aware of the difficulties female singer face in their performances.

Mrs. Gordon pointed out that she wanted to encourage female artists across the region regardless of difficulties.
