The US government proposes to assist South Sudan to assure safety and security, build a diversified economy and consolidate democracy and good governance.

USA Consul General in Juba, R. Barrie Walkley, said yesterday evening during the US Independence celebrations that his government would like to see the Republic of South Sudan to build a diversified economy to improve living standard of its citizens.

He added that the government should pursue inclusiveness, transparency, freedom of speech and respect for human rights.

Mr. Walkley explained that security, dynamic economy and democratic accountable government are key for the success of the new nation.

He remarked that governments were meant to serve citizens and not the other way round.

Mr. Walkley added that democracy needs to be developed in South Sudan.
