Eastern Equatoria authorities have invited about 40 guests from Uganda to attend Independence Day celebrations in Torit, although many more were expecting to be called for the feast.

Eastern Equatoria deputy speaker Paul Napwon Yonae, who chairs the organizing committee for the independence celebrations, told Radio Emmanuel that the government did not have enough resources to invite all interested guests from Uganda.

He added that representatives from ten districts were expected to attend the celebrations in Torit.

Mr. Napwon stressed that every citizen was invited to the Independence celebrations and traditional dancers from all the counties, together with schools and faith based organizations would be represented at the celebration.

He said that international and community based organizations were part of the Independence Day guests.

Mr. Napwon praised the security committee’s work saying that it did a good job and Eastern Equatoria would be at peace on the big day.

The head of the Independence Day celebrations said invitation cards were distributed to several guests while the public would be called to the feast through the public address system.
