EASTERN EQUATORIA GOVERNOR LAYS FOUNDATION STONES FOR TORIT HISTORICAL SITES

The governor of Eastern Equatoria yesterday laid the foundation stones for two historical sites in Torit: Martyrs Square and Freedom Square.

Louis Lobong said the military barracks where the first bullet was shot for South Sudan liberation struggle during the 1955 uprising, would be named Martyrs Square.

He explained that the new historic site evokes all the South Sudanese citizens who offered their lives for the liberation of the country.

Mr. Lobong said the laying of the foundation stone for the new Square marked the beginning of the development of the location into an historic site.

He added that construction works would start soon after the Independence.

Mr. Lobong said the Independence march would start from the Martyrs Square.

The governor also laid a foundation stone at Freedom Square on of the playground where a podium, a slab platform and some shades were already built to host Independence Day celebrations.
