Central Equatorial Health Ministry today inaugurated a seven-room Primary Health Care Unit with drugstore and laboratory, but citizens are calling for the unit to be upgraded into a full health centre.
Munuki Payam Director Simon Martin Wani said during his opening remarks that Munuki is the biggest residential area in Juba and it lacks basic services.He added that the health care unit opened today will give services to over 5,000 residents of Hai Jebel known as Rock City and the surrounding communities.
Mr. Martin appealed for the government and its partners to upgrade the unit into a full health centre to be able of admitting people with serious illnesses before they are referred to main hospital.
The Acting Chairman of Juba Quarters Council, Donato Ochan Hakim; urged the government and African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) to consider building two emergency wards for men and women and a maternity ward and place an ambulance at the facility.
The Hai Jebel Primary Health Care Unit was constructed by AMREF with the support of Spain Agency for Cooperation and Development.
The project cost around 150,000 Sudanese Pounds.
AMREF country Director Alemayehu Seifu handed over the health unit to Central Equatoria Health Minister Emmanuel Ija Baya.
Spain’s consulate general Moises Morera Martin attended the occasion.
