Fr. Leopoldo Anywar spilled his blood for the freedom of the people of South Sudan in the same way Jesus Christ offered his life for the salivation of humankind.
This was the observation made by Bishop Parid Taban during a memorial mass for Fr. Anywar yesterday at Magwi.
Fr. Anywar was killed on November 11, 1968, in Uganda during the Anyanya war.
The retired bishop of Torit said Fr. Anywar was an apostle of Jesus Christ, and he had the zeal to offer his life for God and for the suffering people of South Sudan.
Joseph Lagu, the commander of the Anyanya liberation movement, said Fr. Anywar was murdered on the way to meet him.
Mr. Lagu said the priest was among almost five million people who lost their lives during the two wars for the independence of South Sudan.
Mr. Lagu who was speaking during a heroic reburial of late Hero Fr. Anywar in Magwi remarked that freedom will never be achieved freely.
He advised that the people of South Sudan should guide the freedom they have won through the heavy loss of over five million people in the two civil wars.
