The Catholic Archbishop of Nairobi will represent the Pope at Saturday’s proclamation of Independence of South Sudan.
GoSS President Salva Kiir Mayardit invited the Holy See to send a representative to the Independence celebrations in Juba.
The Vatican appointed Cardinal John Njue, the archbishop of Nairobi, as its official representative at the ceremony.
The Vatican ambassador in Khartoum Archbishop Leo Boccardi will also attend the Independence proclamation together with other Church leaders.
The Secretary General of Juba Catholic archdiocese Fr. Martin Ochaya Lino announced yesterday that Cardinal Njue will preside over a thanksgiving mass on Sunday morning at St. Theresa’s Cathedral in Juba.
