Students from four schools in Juba gathered today in a poem and song competition that will give them an opportunity to participate in the long awaited independence ceremony which is just days away.

The competition sponsored by UNICEF and organised by Bakhita Radio saw more than 100 pupils presenting their entries.

Cecilia Sierra, Directress of Bakhita Radio, said the competition was organized to give children a voice and an opportunity to participate actively in this historical event.

Every child gathered for the competition was given a notebook to keep a journal for the first 100 days of independence.

After 100 days children will submit their journals.

Those who succeed to write on their journal from July 9 to October 17 will receive a prize.

Wani Pitia, a student from St. Comboni Secondary School says he will be critical in his journal to ensure that change comes to the new country.

The children’s journals will determine if some of their expectations are being met by their new government.

The Students present came from St. Bakhita Basic School, St. Vincent de Paul Basic School, St. Theresa’s Basic School, Comboni Secondary School and Bakhita Children from various schools in Juba.
