The Catholic Parish of St. Theresa in Rumbek, Lakes State, is preparing children for the celebration of independence with a special prayer.
Parish Priest Salvadore Ferrao told Good News Radio that the initiative to prepare children in a special way for independence follows the pastoral plan proposed by the Catholic Bishops of South Sudan.The parish began a novena on Wednesday for the children and the prayer programme concludes next Thursday.
Fr. Ferrao explained that the novena involves prayer and some input on the meaning of Independence.
The parish priest said that the nine-day prayer program will culminate with a feast on the eve of Independence Day: the children will share a common meal.
The entire program with the children is animated by the parish youth.
Fr. Ferrao disclosed that for Independence Day the parish is organizing sessions of entertainment with poems, songs, and cultural dances are already being practiced.
He encouraged the faithful to contribute, according to their means, towards the Independence feast.
The Catholic Diocese of Rumbek joined the other dioceses of South Sudan on Wednesday to mark the beginning of a nine-day special prayer period called Novena for nation building under the theme “Jesus, the Cornerstone”.
The Novena develops nine themes from the Social Teaching of the Church.
