Leaders of anticorruption commissions in Africa established the Association of African Anticorruption Authorities during an anticorruption conference in Bujumbura, Burundi.

Deng Yai, Executive Director of South Sudan Anticorruption Commission, told SCR News that the body will ensure that the heads hold regular meetings to share experiences and discuss common challenges of fighting fraud in the continent.

Mr. Deng said that the establishment of the association will help fight corruption in Africa.

He added that most African countries are working alone.

He explained that the new body will allow cooperation between different commission.

For example, South Sudan will be able to investigate suspects who have property in any country of Africa and persecute them with the assistance of national anticorruption bodies.

The participants in the conference also agreed to cooperate in investigating suspects of corruption together with the need of sensitising the public to value the importance of preventing corruption and actively getting involved in controlling fraud.
