The Umma and other opposition parties are expecting the SPLM to win the South Kordofan State elections that start on Monday.

SPLM candidate for Hiban Central to the state legislative assembly Mubarak Bolis said Thursday during a campaign rally in Kauda that the opposition predicts a strong victory for the SPLM candidates, Voice of Peace FM reported.

He added that the President of the Republic Omar Al-Bashir was in the state to support NCP candidate for Governor Ahamed Harun.

Mr. Bolis said the election of this time round is different from last year’s vote for the presidency and national assembly because it is connected to the popular consultation on self-determination.

He remarked that the NCP knows that the people of South Kordofan are no longer standing with them.

State elections pave the way for the exercise of popular consultation whether South Kordofan should be part of Sudan or South Sudan.
