The army of South Sudan will go through a change of name after the independence.

The draft transitional Constitution says in Article 151.2 that the Sudan People’s Liberation army, or SPLA, will be called South Sudan Armed Forces.

The Charter says that Sudan People’s Liberation Army shall be transformed into the South Sudan Armed Forces.

It adds that the South Sudan Armed Forces shall be non-partisan, national in character, patriotic, regular, professional, disciplined, productive and subordinate to the civilian authority.
