The Carter Centre expressed concern over the recent break in South Kordofan’s security and called on all sides to promote a genuine and credible polling process for the state.

The elections for South Kordofan governor and legislative assembly start on Monday.

The observer group said the concluded candidate nomination process was transparent, efficient, and peaceful.

It urged the Government of Sudan, Government of Southern Sudan, state authorities, political parties, and other parts to work together to reduce tensions and promote peaceful participation in the vote.

The Carter Center encouraged the GoSS to release Telefon Kuku, who is running for governor, to campaign in accordance with his political rights or announce formal charges that justify his continued detention.

The Carter Center deployed 24 observers to monitor the South Kordofan gubernatorial and state legislative elections.
