The Transitional Constitution for South Sudan replaced the position of leader of opposition by the leader of minority parties.

GoSS minister of Legal Affairs and Constitutional Development John Luk Jok, who headed the committee that reviews the charter, explained to the leaders of political parties yesterday that the term leader of opposition was only used in the parliamentary systems of governance led by a prime minister.

He added that South Sudan has a mixed presidential and parliamentary system that makes it better to call the opposition leader the leader of minority parties since he represents the marginal party in the parliament.

Mr. Luk said the Constitution has canceled the term leader of opposition out completely.

The minister made the comments yesterday at his overview presentation of the New Constitution to the South Sudan Political Parties Leadership Forum.

The Forum continues today.

The Council of Ministers is expected to approve today the South Sudan Transitional Constitution draft and send it to parliament for ammendment.
