Lakes State will belatedly commemorate TB Day tomorrow under the auspices of Malteser International in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health.

World Tuberculosis Day is marked on March 24, the day in 1882 when the German Physician Robert Koch announced that he discovered the bacteria that caused TB, paving the way towards diagnosing and curing the disease.

Malteser International Lakes State Health Project Manager, Dr. Geoffrey Wandira, told Good News Radio that the celebration intends to scale up awareness about TB under the theme “On the Move against Tuberculosis: Transforming the Fight towards TB Elimination.”

Dr. Wandira said former and current TB patients will perform dramas, give speeches and take part at a luncheon.

He added that there will be a football match featuring Anti-Retroviral Football Club against Community Based Directly Observed Treatment in Short Term Football Club.

The annual World TB Day is designed to build public awareness for the global epidemic that kills millions annually, mostly in developing countries.
