The Catholic Diocese of Rumbek on Tuesday transferred its minor seminarians from Mapuordit to Yirol until security is assured in Mapuordit payam of Lakes State.
Mapuordit has been the scene of violent inter-tribal clashes since March and the latest retaliatory attack took place on Sunday night leaving two people dead.Rumbek Nursing School was also forced to delay the intake of new students and closed its Mapuordit Camp until security is restored.
Lakes State Governor Chol Tong Mayay told Bishop Caesar Mazzolari on Wednesday that he was personally heading for Aluakluak, some 20 kilometers from Mapuordit, to ensure that more soldiers were transported into the area to provide security.
Two weeks ago, he met with his Western Equatoria counterpart Bangassi Joseph Mario Bakosoro and decided to create a buffer zone between the two communities deploying some 500 security personnel.
Eng. Tong expressed disappointment that security arrangements were not yet completed in the area.
