Thirty child soldiers were released from the South Sudan armed forces and other groups and are under a reintegration plan.

The child soldiers where demobilised in Unity State (22) and Northern Bahr el Ghazal (eight) due to the efforts of the Southern Sudan Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (SSDDR), UNICEF and other partners.

The demobilized children will have access to education and vocational training together with the appropriate psycho-social care and support.

While they applauded the demobilization, SSDDR and UNICEF expressed concern that renewed fighting in Greater Upper Nile may lead to new child recruitments.
