Opposition leaders met today in Juba to discuss the Transitional Constitution 2011 draft made public last week.

SRN News learned that the meeting was held at a secret location.

The opposition leaders plan to meet tomorrow SPLM officials to share their position on the transitional fundamental law.

The document makes some new proposals for South Sudan political setup.

The Sothern Sudan Legislative Assembly will become National Legislative Assembly and the MPs who lost their place at the National Assembly in Khartoum will also have a seat in the new assembly.

The Transitional Constitution created another body for the National Legislature: the Council of States made up of the Southerners who had to leave the national council plus 20 members appointed by the president.

Women saw their share of political posts increase to a quarter of all places although they were promised 30 percent.

Death penalty is kept to punish “extremely serious offenses” committed by people aged between 18 and 69 with permission of the president.

The draft calls for a National Constitutional Conference to prepare and vote the permanent Constitution three months before the transitional period expiries.

The mandate of President Salva Kiir Mayardit and of the legislators ends on July 9, 2015.
