South Sudan soldiers and forces loyal to stray SPLA General Peter Gadet have been fighting near Mayom, in Unity State, since Tuesday.

Boniface Taban, a journalist based in Bentiu, told SCR News over the phone that fighting was taking place this morning between SPLA forces and Gadet’s militias between Mayom and Mankin, in Unity State.

He added that the rebels captured Mankin yesterday and they were trying to push the SPLA forces towards Mayom.

Mr. Taban added that both sides refused to give details about casualties.

He said ten SPLA soldiers injured in the clashes were brought to Bentiu Hospital for treatment.

Mr. Taban added that this morning Bentiu was under curfew between six and ten AM.

The SPLA spokesperson was not available to comment.
