South Sudan legislators yesterday granted ten million Sudanese pounds for the counties of South Sudan to hold their own independence celebrations on July 9.
Members of Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly last evening approved the Supplementary Budget and Supplementary Appropriation Bill for the Independence celebrations, totalling over 94.7 million pounds.Barri Wanji, head of Committee of Economy, Development and Finance, said the MPs attributed the ten million pounds by cutting three millions in security, five millions in contingency and two millions from operative incentives in the budget presented by the government.
He added that the ten million will be shared by 78 counties, leaving out Juba that hosts the official celebration.
Prof. Wanji added that each county will establish an independent committee to manage the funds and prepare its own independence celebration programmes.
