The Mayor of Juba City Council disclosed the short term plans for the city ahead of the Independence celebrations.
Mohammed Alhaj Babala told the press this morning in Juba that security, reorganization and cleaning are the immediate priorities for Juba in the run-up for the July 9 celebrations, Bakhita Radio reported.He added that Juba is the capital of the state and the capital of the new republic and it has to host the independence celebrations with dignity.
Mr. Babala explained that his office issued eight local orders banning display of goods in front of shops, burials in residential areas and washing cars along the main roads.
Mr. Babala said the Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation donated five millions US Dollars to make Juba a model city across the region and maintain it.
He added that the City Council members will decide what to build with the donation.
This was the first time the Mayor of Juba gave an official statement after his appointment by the Central Equatoria state government on April 3.
