The Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference (SCBC) has postponed to after independence a final decision whether to continue as one conference or to split into two.

Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro of Juba told Bakhita Radio that the SCBC decided in its last meeting to have two independent secretariats in Juba and in Khartoum.

He added that the bishops will decide in November whether to divide the SCBC into two conferences.

Archbishop Lukudu said for the time being the SCBC will operate as one conference with independent secretariats in the north and the south.

The Archbishop explained that the two Secretariats would deal with the various issues in their respective regions independently.

He said the bishops in the South have a meeting in mid May in Juba to discuss their affairs followed by the meeting of the Bishops in the North in early June.

Archbishop Lukudu made these statements this morning after a meeting with the Church personnel on the decisions from the last SCBC meeting in Juba.
