A house to house search for weapons that security forces started early in the morning all over Malakal went without major incidents.
Police and SPLA forces closed the markets, blocked roads and forbade any movement while searching for guns, bringing Malakal to a standstill, a local resident told SCR news over the phone.News of the search leaked last night and residents were afraid that the violent incidents that took place last month when security agents swept the houses in town for militias would repeat.
However, our source said today no violent incident from the security forces was reported.
The authorities are yet to announce the results of the hunt for weapons.
WFP suspended its flights to and from Malakal this morning.
