The return of about two thousand Jie people from Boma Park to their homeland at Lopeyok in Kapoeta County has worsened Eastern Equatoria state humanitarian situation.

Acting director for humanitarian affairs Benjamin Otimor said the Jie community was forced to return to Eastern Equatoria state following clashes with armed groups and SPLA troops in Boma Park, Jonglei State.

He said armed groups attacked the Jie community towards the end of March with heavy guns, displacing many and destroying their property.

Survivors of the clashes are now trickling in small numbers back into Eastern Equatoria state.

Mr. Otimor said the Jie community vowed to remain in Eastern Equatoria state and never to return to Boma.

Mr. Otimor added that governor Louis Lobong Lojore appealed to humanitarian organizations to help the Jie people who need food, health care, water and shelter to resettle in Eastern Equatoria.
