Two priests of Torit diocese were ambushed yesterday evening by gunmen near Chukudum, in Eastern Equatoria, and one sustained minor injuries.
Fr. Santino Lounoi, director of Emmanuel Radio, sent an e-mail to SCR News saying and Fr. Arite, the parish priest of Chukudum, and he were ambushed by over six gunmen dressed in military cloths at a place called Ngarera, about 20 on the Camp 15-Chukudum road.
Fr. Santino sustained minor injuries at the back of his head caused by shattered windscreen glass.
He said the gunmen riddled the vehicle with bullets but only two passed through the rear window making two holes on the front windscreen.
Fr. Santino added that he gripped the steering wheel and leaned to the right side as he drove amid a shower of bullets.
He explained that they were saved by a coming minibus which scared the attackers away.
Fr. Santino said he was treated for minor injuries at a Kapoeta clinic.
Ngarera spot along the Camp 15-Chukudum road is notorious for armed robberies and killings.
Late last year, tree people were shot at the same place and two died.
There were also several robberies with travellers losing cash and property.
