SPLA LAUNCHES CHILD PROTECTION UNIT IN JUBA

The Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Army SPLA today launched its child protection unit in Juba.
The SPLA started the Demobilization and re-integration of child soldiers earlier before the Comprehensive Peace Agreement CPA, over 4 thousand children have been demobilized and re-integrated since the signing of the CPA.
Addressing the attendance at the occasion Kuol Diem Kuol, SPLA spokesperson said today’s occasion is a continuation of the processes that the SPLA has been doing.
Mr. Kuol said his army is committed to the protection and better re-integration of child soldiers into their families.

Mr. Kuol appealed to the SPLA commanders to avoid recruiting children into the army.
He cited re-integration processes as a major constraint that faces both the SPLA and the demobilized children.

During the occasion former SPLA child soldier John Okullo gave a testimony of how he joined the army and was demobilized and re-integrated to his family last year.
