About 900 patients in and around Torit received eye care services from a Khartoum based medical team in the last three days. The service provision started on Monday this week and attracted a large crowd on the first day.
Doctor Ahmed Abdahim an eye specialist from National Health Insurance said most of the eye patients are people above 40 years of age. He said that the common service during the three days was cataracts operation while other patients received eye glasses and eye drops depending on the defects.
The number obtained by Radio Emmanuel from the National Health Insurance office indicates that more than three hundred patients received clinical services, twenty two were operated and more than one hundred were offered eye glasses on the first day. Dr. Ahmed stressed that the team will carry out another eye service in Kapoeta South County and he urged the public to turn up in large numbers for the free services.
