Microfinance practitioners discussed the need to expand the microfinance industry in Southern Sudan by focusing on building capacity and listening to clients.
The conference was billed as the first of its kind and was attended by Sudanese government officials, donors, technical experts and microfinance practitioners with the aim of sharing best practices and discussing ways to expand the sector, Borg lobe website reported. The conference was sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development’s Generating Economic Development through Microfinance in Southern Sudan (GEMSS) project.
The GEMSS project was launched in 2009 by the Academy for Educational Development and the Agricultural Cooperative Development International and Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance. It is a US-based nonprofit project that supports growth and work to improve health, education and economic development in developing countries.
