In a press release sent to media houses, the Chairman of SANU, Dr. Toby Maduot Parek, explained that his party came to the decision after evaluating the attitude of the dominant National Congress Party (NCP) in the implementation of the 2005 North-South peace deal.
SANU accused the NCP of failing to implement the 2005 comprehensive peace agreement and pursuing “a strategy to marginalize the people of underdeveloped regions of the Sudan”, and dividing the national political forces.
Founded in exile in Uganda in 1963 by late Fr. Saturino Lahoru, Dr. Maduot said SANU was a political party fighting for the right of all the marginalized people of Sudan including Darfur, Eastern Sudan, Nuba Mountains and Southern Blue Nile.
Dr. Maduot was two weeks ago quoted to have voiced his position to maintain the unity of the country.
He however said given the current circumstances, his party has decided to vote for separation of the South.
