The Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement SPLM security forces arrested the helicopter carrying ammunition from Khartoum to arm militias in southern Sudan.

The helicopter was alleged to have come from Khartoum and carrying weapons to George Athor who defected from SPLA after the April general elections.

Speaking to SCR news, SPLM Secretary for information, culture and communication, Bol Makueng Yuol, said the chopper was arrested by SPLM security forces as it refuelled at Poloch in Upper Nile State in an attempt to sneak weapons to men loyal to George Athor.

Mr. Makueng revealed that the crew in the chopper admitted that they were taking the weapons to George Athor and explained that locals have been reporting helicopters landing and taking off at some points in Upper Nile state. He said the crew were arrested and would face the court of law after investigations are completed.

George Athor rebelled against the SPLM/SPLA after the April general elections when contesting for the governorship of Jonglei state.
