Enumerators from World Vision carried out a research survey on market centers to find out the level of agricultural activities in Central Equatoria state.

The one-week research was implemented in different parts of Central Equatoria state to collect statistical data in view of assessing the productivity of local farmers and the challenges they encounter.

An enumerator of World Vision, Peter Kalama Ananias, told SCR News that his organization wanted to know the price of agricultural goods in the market, the level of consumption, and the quantity of agricultural goods sold in the market by the locals.
Mr. Kilama said that the research would provide information also on they size of the fields cultivated by the locals and which organizations provide support. He added that farmers complain about their very small scale production, attributed to lack of seeds, tools and of financial assistance from NGOs.

In the near future, support to local communities may be better directed through this research.
There is need to expand agriculture production in the southern Sudan, to overcome over reliance on imported goods. Price instability of agricultural products is also due to the heavy import, which is highly affected by factors like heavy rains, insecurity, and custom taxes.
