The SPLM deputy secretary general for the southern sector accused the National Congress Party (NCP) of violating the CPA, the Referendum Act and the Interim Constitution by campaigning for unity in the forthcoming referendum.
Addressing the press on Thursday, Dr Anne Itto said President Omar Al Bashir and senior members of NCP have made statements that clearly campaign for unity. She added that the CPA gives the people of south Sudan two options: unity or separation.
For her the environment in the north is not conducive for a free and fair choice, and and pushes people to vote for unity, which violates the CPA and the Interim Constitution of Southern Sudan.
The people of south Sudan are expected to vote in a referendum in January 2011. The outcome of the referendum will either see a new African nation or leave the biggest country in Africa as one.
