Southern Sudan commemorated the fifth anniversary of the martyrs’ day today in Juba.
In 2007, GoSS president declared 30th of July as the day to remember all the fallen heroes and heroines who contributed to the liberation of south Sudan.
The day also remembers the death of former GoSS president, John Garang, who passed away in a plane crash from his way from Uganda.
Talking to the press this afternoon, Benjamin Marial Barnaba, GoSS spokesman, said all people in southern Sudan should remember and meditate on the fallen heroes and heroines.
Mr. Marial affirmed that the death of all the heroes culminated by that of Dr. John Garang, is a symbol of unity among the people of southern Sudan, and the fallen heroes and heroines will remain in the history of southern Sudan for all generations to come. He added that GoSS would put their widows and orphans in its first plans.
Many dignitaries from GOSS and states attended the occasion.
The occasion was marked by traditional dances, poems and marching shows by the SPLA, southern Sudan police, and other southern Sudan organized forces.
