The leadership training, under the theme “enhancement of women in electoral politics in Eastern Equatoria State”, was organized by IKV Pax Christi.
A facilitator from IKV Pax Christi, Mariam Ayoti, said the training was meant to empower the female parliamentarians and advised them to make use of the available 2008 Local Government Act and the Bible.
Parliamentarians in Eastern Equatoria State and other participants of the training are drawn from the NGOs supporting the sector like UNMIS, UNDP, and also Eastern Equatoria State Women Association leaders were invited to attend, to learn more about leadership and their role in development.
A former Kenyan Ambassador, Tabitha Seii, the chief facilitator in the training, appealed to the participants to read the constitution.
She explained that women in Kenya have struggled through torture to achieve equality and significant participation in decision making.
